Dance Class Cancellation
- In the event that St Linus School is closed it should be understood that dance class will be canceled as well. Please note that this doesn't apply if individual public/private school close for any reason.
- If for some other reason classes need to be canceled (i.e. building problems,weather etc) families will be notified by phone. Therefore, please make sure we have an up-to-date phone numbers so we can contact and notify you of the cancellation.
Dress Code-(Every Wednesday Dance Class) - MANDATORY
MUST BE IN PROPER DANCE ATTIRE ON WEDNESDAY
Girls- Leotard, tights, black ballet/jazz shoes, practice skirt (min. 90” fullness) Hair MUST be pulled back away from the face.
Boys- Black sweats or wind pants, T-shirt, black jazz or ballet shoes (No athletic/gym shoes)
Krakowiak Costumes All students must own a Krakowiak Costume. If transferring from another group then an updated costume will be need to be uniformed with Syrena A new student(s) will need to purchase the costume in the beginning of the dance season. New costume cost between $100-$200 depending on age and gender of student. You may purchase you costume from the Polish Art Center or through the dance school.
- The Krakowiak costume is the most celebrated and popular costume in Poland. The men's costume is modeled after a military uniform. Their costumes consists of a red and white striped pants and a long blue or black coat. The clatter of metal attached to their belt accentuate the rhythm of the dance. The women's skirt can be almost any color but always bright floral print. The vest are made of black velvet that features detailed embroidery.
- Regional costumes are rented to the dancer for a minimal fee.
- Novelty costumes are the responsibility of each parent/dancer.
Fundraisers
The Syrena Dance Ensemble only has two fundraisers throughout the dance year. They are the program book for our recital and a silent auction which is held at our recital.
Presentation Ball
The Syrena Dance Ensemble has a very memorable tradition for the graduate of the Ensemble as well as the parents. Graduating high school seniors are honored at the Presentation Ball. Honors and tributes are given to the graduate (s) at this elegant celebration.
To be honored as a graduate, a dancer must have danced four (4) consecutive years, up to and including their senior year of high school with the Syrena Dance Ensemble and have actively performed 60% per year at performances and designated activities during the above stated period of time (summer prior to 9th grade through 12th grade). The graduate must also be in good standing with their insurance policy so they may be considered an active PRCUA member.

Dress rehearsal- T.B.A. All costumes must be worn at dress rehearsal
Or yearly recital is held in April or early May
PRCUA Insurance Policy- All student dancing with Syrena must have an active insurance policy through PRCU in order to dance. For a new student, a policy will need to be purchased during the first few months of class. The dance school has an insurance deputy that could answer all questions, if needed.for further information visit http://www.prcua.org/products/
Syrena is affiliated and subsided by the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. PRCUA is a Fraternal insurance company, which provides a subsidy to Polish dance and cultural groups. Therefore, it is mandatory the every child(ren) have a PRCUA insurance policy.
